---FHE Ashton Style---

We're trying to make an effort to have family home evening each week in 2008. Since Brad's schedule is all over the place we have decided to have it on the first day he is off. Last week Brad did the lesson, so this week Ashton wanted to. I told him tonight that he should start thinking about what he wants the lesson to be about. I told him he could look in his Friend magazines for ideas, but he needed to take it seriously and actually plan a lesson. I offered all the help in the world but he refused. He wasn't about to let me know what the lesson was about before Tuesday. He even brought me a page in his Friend magazine to copy.

After he went to bed tonight I was picking up and saw his FHE planning notebook. I started gathering all his things and put them on the fireplace so he could continue with his planning tomorrow. I couldnt help but look.

Book of mormen
We ned the book of mormen becus Hevnly Fader...

BEWARE fellow California Tortilla Consumers!

Brad and I were doing some errands today so we decided to stop off at California Tortilla for lunch. They always have really yummy food. I've always been a strange burrito eater. I eat maybe half of it and then unwrap the tortilla and eat it. Then I finish off the insides of the tortilla with a fork. I had unwrapped my burrito and started eating the tortilla shell. It was very yummy until I put it down and saw a strange looking spice. I picked at it with my fork only to realize......

IT WAS A BUG!

wings and all. It was about the size of a small fly. How gross is that! I took my plate to the counter and unfortunately had to say the words, "There's a bug in my burrito." In the end I got my money back and a coupon for a free burrito. The manager tried to make me another one, but I said NO WAY! Brad however was not phased by my near tragic experience. He kept on eating.

So, remember this story the next time you're at California Tortilla. What might be a bean or a piece of rice might actually be a bug.

stupid carseats

Since Talan is getting a little too big for his infant carseat we've been looking into getting him a convertible carseat.

It is really irritating to me that there are tons of girls carseats with flowers and fairies and pink, but when it comes to buying a boys carseat there is nothing cute like that. How hard would it be to make a batman or spiderman carseat. Or even one with trucks on it or something. Not really thinking that would be a big challenge.

It's starting

A few days ago Ashton told me he was going to be a rockstar when he grew up. (I blogged about it) I didn't really think he was serious about it though until today.

I was talking with another mom of a boy in Ashton's Kindergarten class setting up a playdate and she said, 'Nikolas came home and said he was going to be in Ashton's rockband.'

I guess he really is serious. He's started recruiting!

Lemon Licker!

Talan likes lemons! He's been showing this huge intrest in everything we eat. Yesterday I was cutting up a lemon for my water and he just kept staring so i gave him a slice. I actually figured it'd make him cry but it had the opposite effect.

Eureka! We've done it!

Ashton has officially gone 6 days without talking back, without throwing a fit, without being demanding. He has been soooo excellent. So today he got to pick either some eye thing for the playstation or a ninja turtle playset (which I picked up at target the other day for $3...woot! woot!). He chose the ninja turtle playset. Starting tomorrow we are shooting for 7 days with the same outcome. The kicker is they have to be 7 days in a row. If he gets to day 5 and has a fit...oops have to start over. Hopefully the next 7 days will be peaceful!

yes...i know...he's gigantic

Today Chappie (the jeep) had to go to the doctor. We wernt sure what was wrong with him and so we waited until the doctors did a diagnostics test to pinpoint the problem. Turns out something was broken but I have no idea what it was. As long as it is fixed.

Anyway, while we were in line to drop Chappie off this man kept looking at Talan. He finally got up the nerve to make small talk and this is what came out of his mouth, "He's due for a carseat graduation it looks like. What is he? 7 months?"

Then when I told him Talan was 4 months old he said he had a 4 month old at home but "she isnt that big."

I brushed him off and we went and sat in the waiting room. Brad hadn't eaten breakfast so he walked himself to McDonalds which left and empty seat next to me. Guess who sat there. The same man that I fear is going to nominate Talan for the guiness book of world records. I saw him glancing at Talan out of the corner of his eye and finally he asked it. "How much does he weigh?"
I answer "16 and a half pounds." He then says "Really? That's it. I thought he had to be AT LEAST 20. My wife told me the other day that our 4 month old was getting too big. I asked her how much she weighed and she said 12lbs so she's much smaller."

Obviously this man has no social skills. I realize that Talan is gigantic. But it isnt because I'm feeding him cheetoes and putting root beer in his bottles. The way I see it is...he's really tall so he needs the extra weight. If he was as tall as he is and weighed 12 pounds he'd look like I wasnt feeding him.

On a side note....Chappie is better now.

Ashton Tidbit...

Yesterday Ashton told me he was going to be a rockstar when he grows up. He's already been thinking of a song and everything, but the song wont be ready until he is an adult. I'm a little sad that he's tossed aside his previous ambitions of being an author. Of course being an author was sooooo last week. New week....new career goal.

He's a fun kid. Its going to be neat and interesting to watch him grow up and see where life takes him.
